On October 30, 2024, the Philippine National Police Internal Affairs Bureau (PNP-IAS) announced that it recommended that 11 police officers involved in the Ayala Alabang residential area brawl be fired. The police officers were found guilty of serious misconduct, serious dishonesty, and behavior that damaged the image of police officers.
The case originated from a brawl in May involving two police officers belonging to the National Police Special Operations Force, who allegedly provided security services to a Chinese national associated with the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO).
Subsequent investigations showed that several special operations force officers attempted to cover up the illegal part-time work of their subordinates, involving six police officers, including a police lieutenant colonel, and five non-commissioned police officers.
In addition, evidence showed that Zamboanga City (Zamboanga) special police officers were suspected of conspiracy to forge documents to make the two dispatched special police officers appear to be still serving in their original units.
The authorities stressed that this ruling once again reminds all police officers that “no one is above the law” and the public has the right to expect the police to maintain the highest standards of integrity. Any deviation from their duties will be subject to appropriate disciplinary sanctions.
