胡蓉曾有过多段婚姻，第一任丈夫体弱多病，结婚4年后因病去世，留下一个女儿，和第二任丈夫结婚又生下一个女儿，2013年因夫妻感情不和离婚。2016年为了给大女儿带孩子，胡蓉开办了一家幼儿园，就在此时上网聊天认识了阿穆。刚认识时，两人并不经常联络，2年后阿穆离开成都前往福建，也结束了自己一段为期3年左右的婚姻。
胡蓉称，后来有一次阿穆说想跟自己“耍朋友”，但因为年龄差距太大，自己没有同意，“我说这咋可能的事情，你晓不晓得我好大，这简直是不可能的事情，我是绝对不同意的。”
胡蓉介绍，后来阿穆回老家治病，两人开始频繁联系，天天聊天。在阿穆的邀请下，胡蓉前往厦门。在见到阿穆后，胡蓉觉得他身形偏瘦，不是自己想象中的样子，“又老又瘦，感觉有点失望”胡蓉说，但阿穆的体贴让两人感情迅速升温。在厦门期间，阿穆除了开出租车外，其余时间都陪着胡蓉，“他做饭洗碗，啥也不让我干，表现特别的好。他带我去海边，他捡螺，我踩水，从来没有这样的感觉，很开心。”胡蓉表示。
