Bloomberg reported that Cuban authorities announced on Sunday that all non-essential activities will be suspended for the next three days, and schools will also be closed to cope with the dual threats of a nationwide blackout and a hurricane.
According to AFP, the US National Hurricane Center said that Category 1 Hurricane Oscar landed in eastern Cuba at 5:50 pm on the 20th (5:50 am on the 21st, Singapore time), with maximum sustained winds of nearly 80 miles per hour (about 130 kilometers) and moving westward at a speed of 7 miles per hour.
The US National Hurricane Center later said that Oscar weakened to a tropical storm and was moving over eastern Cuba.
Cuban Minister of Energy and Mines Levy said that most people will get electricity on the evening of the 21st, and may have to wait until the 22nd at the latest.
